It appears that Sony has managed to keep to its target window and is beginning to roll out its Android 6.0 Marshmallow update for the Xperia Z5 today. Users have spotted a 32.1.A.1.163 tagged Marshmallow firmware update for the E6653, E6683, and E6603 Xperia Z5 models. Reports are also coming in about a similar update for the Compact and Premium models too.

Updates in Thailand and Russia appeared first, but the list of countries looks to be growing at a steady pace. Reddit users are reporting that updates have landed in Austria, Australia, Ireland, and Malaysia too. The builds appear to be for a mix of unlocked and carrier branded handsets, which is a bonus. The first signs of a Marshmallow roll out for the Xperia Z5 range appeared last week. Japan’s NTT DoCoMo began pushing out a slightly different 32.1.F.0.43 build to its customers on March 3rd.

The Marshmallow update packs in the new core Android features, such as Doze mode battery management, configurable app permissions, and Google Now on Tap. The latest February 2016 security patches from Google are included in the package as well. Sony has also made a number of tweaks to the user interface, included a new Xperia Home launcher, and made some adjustments to its camera app. However, Sony’s STAMINA mode appears to have been removed with this update and the company hasn’t implemented Marshmallow’s adoptable storage mode for microSD cards either.

As always, this update might take a little longer to actually appear on your handset. So just sit tight. Marshmallow for the Xperia Z5 is finally here.
