Sony has been working on Android 6.0 Marshmallow for a while now and some customers can even participate in its beta program. Today, the first finished version of its Marshmallow update has gone live for the Xperia Z5, Xperia Z5 Compact and Z5 Premium in Japan.

The update is currently rolling to handsets parried up with the carrier NTT DoCoMo and comes with the 32.1.F.0.43 build number. As we know, Android 6.0 Marshmallow includes new core features such as Doze mode battery management, configurable app permissions, and Google Now on Tap. Sony has also made a number of tweaks to the user interface and there’s a new Xperia Home launcher too. Icons in the notification area are now configurable and the camera app has also been updated with simple swipe gestures to move between modes.

Since October, Sony has also been running a Marshmallow beta program for some of its other Xperia handsets. This now involves the Xperia Z2, Xperia Z3, and Xperia Z3 Compact, with over 10,000 registered users trying out Android 6.0 and providing feedback to Sony.

Although we don’t have an exact date release date yet, we’re hoping that a finished version of Marshmallow isn’t too far away for these handsets either. Last month, Sony Xperia GB has suggested that Marshmallow will be arriving for the Z5 series, the Z4 Tablet and the Z3+ on March 7th, so we could be looking at a more global roll-out in a week or so. Fingers crossed.
