Logitech is acquiring Jaybird for $50 million

Jaybird-1

Many of us can agree Logitech makes great products. Especially their mice and keyboards; these are some of the best in the market. Most people don’t relate the brand to audio very much, but they do own Ultimate Ears (UE), which manufactures awesome audio products. Today Logitech adds yet another audio-focused company to its collection – Jaybird.

Logitech has agreed to acquire Jaybird for $50 million, with an extra $45 million coming through if growth goals are met in the coming 2 years.

Logitech, UE and Jaybird will continue to operate under their own brand names. After all, the Jaybird moniker is not something to take lightly. This company has earned a name for itself, especially for active users and wireless headphone enthusiasts. In fact, the Jaybird X2 Bluetooth earbuds has gotten plenty of awards from Sound Guys, our sister website.

Other Jaybird content:

“We’re impressed by the technology, products and marketing Jaybird has brought to this business. As one team, we can address the fast-growing wireless audio wearables market with all the advantages of Jaybird’s strong brand and sports expertise, and our combined audio engineering and design capabilities. With both the Ultimate Ears and Jaybird brands in our portfolio, we are expanding the long-term growth potential of our music business.” -Bracken Darrell, Logitech president and chief executive officer

The goal here is to combine Jaybird’s marketing and sporting expertise with Logitech’s previous experience in engineering and design. How soon we will see the changes is still unknown, but we will probably start seeing a change in products from both UE and Jaybird, but it seems the acquisition won’t really materialize until fiscal year 2017.

The acquisition is said to close “in the coming weeks”, so this is pretty much a done deal. Let’s wait and see what the future brings.
