Earlier today we reported on Lenovo’s newly announced Vibe X smartphone. Now it’s time to take a look at the S5000, the Chinese company’s newest budget tablet.

The S5000 is certainly an attractive enough looking device, with similar styling to the company’s Vibe X. Looking deeper, we find a device that has reasonably decent specs, but nothing that will knock your socks off.

The S5000 is powered by a quad-core MediaTek 8389 SOC, and is accompanied by just a 1GB of RAM. Some of the devices other specs include a 7-inch 1280 x 800 display, 16GB storage, microSD, 5MP rear cam, 1.6MP front cam and a 3,450 mAh battery. The tablet will also feature Android 4.2 Jelly Bean, with Lenovo’s custom UI running on top.

So how much does the handset cost, and when will it arrive? The device is expected to touch down in Q4 of this year for €199 (about $262), which is just a bit cheaper than the Nexus 7 (2013) 16GB version, which costs €229 (about $300.45) in Europe. No word on if or when the tablet will come to North America.

You might be wondering why anyone would consider the S5000 over the new Nexus 7. The S5000 isn’t nearly as powerful as the 7-inch Nexus, but it does have a few small advantages such as microSD and its smaller, thinner profile. While the Nexus 7 is 10.45 thick and weighs 340 grams, the Lenovo S5000 is just 7.9mm thick and weighs only 236 grams.

Whether that’s enough to lure you away from Google’s Nexus tablet is up to you. What do you think, would you consider the Lenovo S5000 or not?
