Is Samsung rolling out Jelly Bean update for the Galaxy Tab 2 7.0?

Despite the lack of a specific date, the road to Jelly Bean for the Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 has been paved, thanks to the leaked OTA update file for the tablet that we reported about earlier in the week. Now it appears that the official Android 4.1 update has reached at least one lucky owner of the 7-incher in India.

According to Androidos.in, which received the tip about the arrival of Jelly Bean on the Galaxy Tab 2 7.0, the update is already being rolled out by Samsung India over-the-air (OTA). It will reportedly be available on Kies as well, with the file size for the new firmware being pegged at 207MB.

We’re not sure how accurate the tip is, because it was only last week that the Tab 2 7.0 received an official Android 4.0.4 update with some stability fixes. The file size for that particular update was also 207MB. Furthermore, we haven’t seen more owners of the tablet coming out and sharing the good news on the usual online places.

What we’re trying to say is, until we hear more, don’t get your hopes up about the Jelly Bean update. With Samsung only planning to bring it to Galaxy S3 in October, it’d be rather odd for the Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 to receive it first – though not entirely implausible. There’s also a possibility that this is just a test roll-out.

Anyway, we’ll keep you posted and let you know more as we hear it. Be sure to leave some comments below if you see the update on your Galaxy Tab 2 7.0.
