Intel hosting Windows 8 tablet event on September 27, will also detail Clover Trail

Whether we Android enthusiasts like it or not, Microsoft’s Windows 8 is just around the corner, and this time the operating system will not only focus on powering PCs and laptops, but it will also try to change the tablet market as we know it.

Although we’re still a full month away from Windows 8’s commercial launch, Microsoft, Intel and all the other big-time companies involved in this new “project” are doing everything in their power to build enough hype surrounding W8 tablets to kick Android to the curb right off the bat.

The marketing efforts started with a big bang at the IFA, where a bunch of W8 tablets were officially unveiled, and they’ll continue with an Intel press event scheduled for September 27. The event might not sound like a big deal at first, considering that we aren’t expecting many new products to be on display. However, we’re not only going to hear from Intel, but also from Acer, Asus, Dell, HP, Lenovo, Samsung and ZTE at the press conference.

Erik Reid, general manager of Application Processor Platforms in the Mobile and Communications Group of Intel, will be the host of the event set to take place at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art. The rest of the names on the keynote speakers list are for the time being kept under wraps, but it’s obvious we will be seeing some major executives from all of the PC and tablet players mentioned above detailing their plans for this brand new market niche.

One of the most interesting names on the list of Intel “guests” at the San Francisco event, albeit certainly not the most important one, is ZTE, the China-based device manufacturer that has made a name for itself in the Android world with several good-looking and snappy phones unveiled these past few months.

Unlike all the other companies expected to be present at the September 27 event, ZTE is yet to show off a Windows 8 powered tablet. However, several fresh leaks are pointing towards both a Windows Phone 8 handset and a W8 slate from ZTE, so it seems that we’ll have at least one completely new product presented in San Francisco after all.

Intel has also mentioned there’ll be new details on the next-gen Intel Atom processor (aka Clover Trail), so hopefully the “party” will include some treats (or at least promises and hints) for us Android geeks, too. We’ve heard a lot of good things about Clover Trail lately, and, despite initial speculations, it seems that the chip will come in a special variation for Linux and Android. Now, all we need are some gadgets to pair the oh-so-promising CPU with our favorite mobile OS…
