Wireless traffic on Verizon is 50% video, according to a statement the company’s CEO, Lowell McAdam, has made at the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) Show in Las Vegas.

He then added that the reason why half of the traffic is video is his company’s LTE network, as 3G implies buffering, but 4G  allows users to stream video, by eliminating that. He also made an interesting prediction, saying that the percentage of the network’s wireless traffic video makes will get to two-thirds until the year 2017.

While it remains to be seen whether that prediction will come true or not, what’s certain is that Android smartphones will continue to fight with the iPhone over traffic. The iPhone 5 won in a recent survey, but things could change with the arrival of the likes of Samsung Galaxy S4.

On the other hand, the Verizon CEO seems to be very keen to make friends everywhere. After praising T-Mobile’s new approach, he reassured NAB Show attendants about the dangers LTE Broadcasting could constitute for television in the traditional sense, saying that it won’t get in their way and that it could only improve events such as the Super Bowl by adding a dimension.
