The Chromebook Pixel 2 is currently out of stock in the U.S.. Unfortunately for fans of the best-looking Chromebook yet, it is permanently out of stock in the country, including via Best Buy. Google has admitted to VentureBeat that “we’re committed to the Pixel program but we don’t have plans to restock the Pixel 2”. Hopefully, we can interpret that to mean a Pixel 3 shouldn’t be too far away, but it’s far from a guarantee.

The only real issue with the Chromebook Pixel successor was its high price tag. At $1,299 (along with an already discontinued $999 version), the Pixel 2 was just too much money for what you got. It was a great Chromebook to be sure, and its touch screen, performance and design were top-notch, but it just wasn’t enough to stack up to the likes of the Macbook Air or other similarly-priced but better equipped Windows laptops.

Until the Pixel 3 arrives – if indeed it ever does – we’ve got the Android 7.0 Nougat-powered Pixel C tablet to keep our Pixel needs fulfilled. It too is a bit on the pricey side, even with that $150 discount, so hopefully if Google takes a third swing at bat it will come with a slightly lower price tag. Of course, Google’s main goal with its hardware is to provide reference devices rather than make money or ship large numbers.
