Google Nexus 4 and Nexus 10 sold out internationally, Nexus 4 and 32GB Nexus 10 out in the U.S. as well

Google Nexus

The good news is that the Samsung Nexus 10 and LG Nexus 4 have arrived today. The bad news is that these new Google Nexus devices were pretty much were gone before they even arrived.

Internationally, the Google Nexus 4 and Nexus 10 are sold out in all the markets they debuted in today. Not only did they sell out, they were gone within just a few short hours after going on sale. What about in the U.S. market? In the United States, the Nexus 4 was online for about a half hour before the stock for 8GB and 16GB models both dried up. The Nexus 10 32GB model also sold out about an hour or so after the Nexus 4. At the time of this writing, all the expanded Nexus 7 models and the Nexus 10 16GB are still for sale, though.

So what happened here? More than likely, Google had used past trends from launches of the Nexus 7, Galaxy Nexus and the rest of the Nexus line in order to estimate demand for the Nexus 4 and Nexus 10. While we don’t know how many units they prepared for this launch, clearly the extremely low pricing and quality designs for the newest Nexus line-up generated more interest for first day purchases than Google expected.

To add insult to injury, it seems that having such short stock was only part of the problem, the Google Play store checkout system was also experiencing some pretty big issues. According to reports across the net, many potential Nexus customers tried in vain to get the site to let them order their devices, even before the Nexus 4 and Nexus 10 were listed as sold out. Likely due to extreme server overload, many customers were greeted with errors saying their payment method couldn’t be charged and other similar issues.

So how long will you have to wait for another chance to grab the new Nexus smartphone and tablet? More than likely the Nexus 4 and Nexus 10 will both be back later this week, though who knows for how long. We’ll keep you informed as we learn more. For now, the Nexus 4 and 32GB Nexus 10 order page simply says the devices are “coming soon”.

Were you able to snag an LG Nexus 4 or Samsung Nexus 10 today, or are you one of the many consumers left agitated by the lack of units available for order?
