Google Calendar on the web gains smart suggestions, older Drive apps to shut down soon

If you happen to use the web version of Google Calendar, you’ll now be able to use two features that are already on the Android version of the app. Those features include virtual meeting room suggestions along with the ability to show the time zones for each person in such a meeting.

The room suggestion feature will offer ideas for rooms based on the history of you and your guests’ previously used rooms when you create a new meeting. The ability to manually search or browse for a room is still sticking around for those folks who might need a little more control over their meetings. G Suite customers should see these new additions rolled out over the next few days. Google says they will be rolling out even more improvements for Calendar scheduling in the next year, including better ways for users to manage their calendar resources.

At the same time, Google announced that older versions of its Drive, Docs, Sheets, and Slides apps for Android and iOS will shut down after April 3. Here’s the full list:

  • Google Drive for Android (prior to version 2.4.311)
  • Google Docs for Android (prior to version 1.6.292)
  • Google Sheets for Android (prior to version 1.6.292)
  • Google Slides for Android (prior to version 1.6.292)
  • Google Drive for iOS (prior to version 4.16)
  • Google Docs for iOS (prior to version 1.2016.12204)
  • Google Sheets for iOS (prior to version 1.2016.12208)
  • Google Slides for iOS (prior to version 1.2016.12203)

If you are using one of these apps you will be prompted to update to the latest version before they shut down. Users that are still operating much older versions of these apps will be forced to update after March 1.
