Gmailify brings key Gmail features to your non-Google email account

Today on their official blog, Gmail announced that they are bringing all the best parts of Gmail to non-Google accounts through the use of a process they’re calling “Gmailify.” Through Gmailification, you can get key features like spam protection and inbox organization on your Yahoo, Outlook, or Hotmail accounts, as well as a slew of others. And, of course, you don’t even have to change your address.

You do, however, have to have an existing Gmail account for these other inboxes to ‘piggyback’ off of. To get this functionality, simply open up the latest version of the Gmail app and sign into your non-Gmail accounts. Enable “Gmailify,” and you’re on your way to getting all the perks of Google’s popular email service without having to abandon that super cool MSN email address you came up with in middle school. Hell yes, bloodninja92 is still an amazing handle that demands respect from your coworkers and business contacts.

Google promises that you’re always in control of your accounts, and that you’re free to unlink Gmailified email addresses at any point. Non-Gmailified addresses will still be accessible through the Gmail app, as usual.

What do you think of Google’s plan to extend their services beyond their official email platform? With features and availability becoming more valuable than platform, we’re seeing a lot of interesting things happen in the mobile market as of late, such as Apple beginning to roll out versions of their apps for the Android operating system.
