Galaxy Tab4 line official: mid-range specs, HD screens, and KitKat

Galaxy Tab4 7.0

Once again, the leaks were spot on. Without much fanfare, Samsung introduced today the latest addition to its already sizeable roster of Android tablets, the Galaxy Tab4 line.

The new Galaxy Tab4 line is comprised of three models with almost identical specs and different screen sizes: 7-inch, 8-inch, and 10.1-inch. All three new tablets feature mid-range specifications, and, while Samsung has not revealed pricing details, the Galaxy Tab4′s are probably going to be priced to impress the budget conscious.

All three devices feature 1280 x 720 LCD screens in 16:10 format, which supposedly offer a “brilliant viewing experience while watching videos, playing games, or reading digital contents.” Powering the new Tab4’s is a quad-core processor clocked at 1.2GHz and 1.5GB of RAM. Storage is capped at 16GB, but the microSD card should provide some relief for heavy media users. There’s a 3MP front facing camera and a meager 1.3MP unit on the back, while battery size is 4,450mAh on the Tab4 8.0 and 6,800mAh on the Tab4 10.1 (Samsung does not provide the battery capacity for the Tab4 7.0).

In terms of design, the new Tab4 tablets feature a Note 3-like textured back cover, though they lack the faux stitching present on the Note 3 and the Note 12.2. The three tablets will be available in Black and White.

In terms of software, we’re glad to see KitKat on the spec sheet, along with Samsung’s own features and apps, including Multi Window, Samsung Link, WatchON, and Group Play.

Samsung says the new Tab4 will become available globally in Wi-Fi only, 3G, and LTE versions beginning Q2, 2014, which can mean anything from today to three months from now.
