If you’re a Galaxy Nexus owner wanting to enjoy a taste of sweet Nougat, now you can thanks to a ROM created by the Unlegacy-Android project. The project, headed by developers MWisBest and Ziyan, aims to bring current Android features to hardware that’s no longer officially supported; the Galaxy Nexus is the latest device on the list.

The new ROM file was spotted in an XDA Developers forum post and it seems to be stable, though issues with GPS and mobile data have been noted. Similarly, you may experience trouble connecting to 5 GHz Wi-Fi networks, but otherwise, almost all critical features are said to be functional.

The Galaxy Nexus was released was back in late 2011 and its last official Android update was Android 4.3 Jelly Bean. The handset has been kept alive over the years by a number of ROMs, despite the fact that most Android phones are typically supported with major Android updates for just two years.

To flash the Android 7.1 Nougat ROM you’ll need a rooted Galaxy Nexus and likely a little patience; as this is an almost five-year-old device, don’t expect insane speeds from the OS.
