We have already seen a few unconfirmed reports about a 32GB Nexus 7 tablet. Up until now the reports have been believable enough, of course we should point out that nothing has come directly from Google just yet. So far there have been some leaked inventory screen captures coming from various retailers. Perhaps the most notable of these came by way of British retailer Carphone Warehouse and out of the U.S. via Buy.com.
And then the Nexus 7 went on sale for those in Japan. Google was offering the Nexus 7 the same as the did elsewhere, in an 8GB or a 16GB variety. One person (Twitter user @oppese), who we will consider lucky, appears to have received something a bit larger. Well, lucky assuming the tweeted image is the real deal. According to said image, the user purchased a Nexus 7 tablet that has 27.58GB showing in the “Total space” available section in Settings -> Storage. Just to clarify, that would mean roughly 5GB of space would be used by the operating system. Comparatively, the 16GB Nexus 7 has a bit over 13GB of “Total space.”
The remaining details in the screen capture include 26.62GB of space remaining for the user with 733MB of apps, 38.69MB of pictures and videos and 200KB of audio. In other words, this would appear to be a newly opened Nexus 7.
The interesting part of this story, according to the user who took and shared this image, is that he thought he was buying a 16GB Nexus 7 tablet.
Otherwise, a 32GB Nexus 7 seems like a logical step and could service nicely as a bump in the lineup because even with using the cloud for music and video storage, you may find yourself left with not as much free space as you would have hoped. Some of the apps can take up a significant amount of storage. Take Asphalt 7: Heat for example, a driving game that takes up 1.37GB of space. Get a couple of larger apps like that and even 16GB will disappear quickly.
