Fujitsu unveils new 10-inch Arrows Tab with Full HD screen and monster battery

Fujitsu Arrows

Fujitsu might have not been the first name to count on for coming up with an “iPad killer”, but we probably underestimated the Japan-based OEM there a bit. The company’s newest 10-inch entry, dubbed Arrows Tab AR70B, will most likely never reach 1% of iPad’s sales, but that’s not due to lack of power.

Quite on the contrary, as the new Arrows Tab comes packing a 1.7 GHz Nvidia Tegra 3 quad-core CPU, a 12-core graphics processing unit and 2 GB of RAM. You also get plenty of storage space to go around (32 gigs internal plus potentially another 32 using the microSD card slot), while the connectivity options include everything you could possibly need (save for 3G) – Wi-Fi a/b/g/n, Wi-Fi Direct, Bluetooth 4.0 and NFC.

The display is state of the art as well, even though it’ll probably not be quite as sharp as the ones sported by the newest iPad and the Nexus 10. That said, you should do just fine with the Full HD 1,920 x 1,200 pixels resolution of this fellow’s 10.1-inch touchscreen.

You can’t complain about lack of elegance or style either, seeing as Fujitsu’s big guy only weighs 589 grams. That might not sound very impressive at first, but compared with Nexus 10’s 603 grams and iPad 4’s 662 grams it’s pretty awesome.

Fujitsu Arrows-2

The Arrows Tab is thicker than the two (9.9 mm vs 8.9 vs 9.4), but you do get protection against water and dust, so you probably won’t mind the slightly chunkier profile (that is, if you’ll notice it in the first place).

But if style and power are not your thing and you’re still not sold on this tab, you might want to hear about the 10,080 mAh “monster” battery of the Arrows. That’s considerably larger than the 9,000 mAh “ticker” inside the Nexus 10 and is rated at 14 hours of heavy use and 2,100 hours (!!!) of standby. Pretty crazy, eh?

All said and done, we still stand behind our claim that the Fujitsu Arrows Tab AR70B will not be a mainstream sales hit. Why? Well, for one thing, we’re pretty disappointed about the on-board Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.

More importantly, pricing is still kept under wraps and that’s never encouraging. Finally, Fujitsu’s global brand awareness – especially in the Android market – is not very strong, which pretty much guarantees this here tab will remain a Japan exclusive. That’s really too bad, we know, but what can you do about it?

If you do live in Japan and you’re interested in the 10-incher, look for it in stores come February 15. Oh, and do try to not rub it in our faces too much once you get ahold of this beauty.
