Exclusive interview: Samsung exec shares inside scoop on Galaxy Note 2 [video]

Ever wondered what went behind the making of one of the year’s most anticipated gadgets, the Galaxy Note 2? Just before the unveiling of the phablet phenomenon at IFA 2012 in Berlin, Android Authority’s Darcy LaCouvee spoke to Samsung Mobile product marketing director Ryan Bidan on several topics, such as the design philosophy of the Galaxy Note 2, its specs, release date, and much more.

Below you’ll find some main points from the interview.

When it comes to the design of the Galaxy Note 2, Bidan explains that Samsung wants customers to get a consistent experience across all devices. Hence, we see a very strong influence of the Galaxy S3 in the Note 2.

The company continues to innovate in the UX department, to distinguish the brand from its competitors and avoid becoming just another Android device maker. One new Note-specific feature is Air View, which lets users hover the stylus above the display for a seamless preview of media.

The interview also discusses the joy of sharing content across devices and the desire to keep the process simple, specs and why they’re not the main objective when creating a device, what it’s like to work with Google in providing the latest software update for consumers, the release date of the Galaxy Note 2, and the use of a next-generation Super AMOLED screen on the device.
