Dell took the cover off of several new tablets today, but it’s the Dell Venue 7 and 8 that stand out the most. Why? Because they are the first Android-powered Dell tablets since the Streak 7!

Similar to how HP first entered into the Android game with a budget device, Dell hopes that with this return to Android, they will be able to win the hearts of the budget conscientious crowd with its $149 7-inch tablet and $189 8-inch tablet.

The twist to this story is that Dell’s tablets aren’t rocking low-end ARM processors, but instead feature last-gen 2GHz Intel Atom Clover Trail Plus CPUs. Both models are very similar with 2GB of RAM, an estimated 10 hour battery life, 16GB storage, microSD and an IPS display with a resolution of 1280 x 800. Both tablets will also eventually offer LTE variants and come in either black or red.

As for the OS, the tablets will come pre-loaded with Android 4.2.2, but the company claims they plan to bring out Android 4.4 KitKat as soon they can. We wouldn’t recommend holding your breath, though.

So how do the two models differ? The most obvious difference is the display size, but the Venue 8 (pictured above) also has an 5MP back cam and 2MP front cam, versus the Venue 7’s 3MP back cam and VGA front cam. The only other difference is that the Venue 8 will also offer a 32GB version – though pricing has yet to be revealed for the 32GB model.

The Dell Venue 7 and Venue 8 are expected to ship on October 18th, at least in 16GB WiFi-only form. So what do you think, impressed by Dell’s new Android tablets or not?
