With the Nexus 6, Nexus 5X, and Nexus 6P all proceeding it, there’s no denying that the Nexus 5 is getting up there in years. Despite its age, it’s still a pretty solid performer and continues to be a go-to device for a number of users out there. Recently it’s even be the subject of a couple of cool mods that aim to add microSD or even bigger internal storage to the 2013 Nexus flagship. Is it still worth buying? Depends on how cheaply you can get it. With Daily Steals offering a refurbished unit for just $140, we’d say yes — at least if your looking for a budget-priced device or a solid secondary device.
This isn’t the cheapest we’ve ever seen the phone, but every time the Nexus 5 drops into the $130 to $150 range, it seems to run out of stock pretty fast. The model in question is the D820 variant, designed with North American networks in mind. While it will also work internationally, it may be missing some of the bands required to make the most out of international networks — so be sure to check this out before you buy if you want to use the phone outside of North America.
As a brief refresher, the Nexus 5 is powered by a Snapdragon 800 processor with 2GB RAM and 32GB storage. Other specs include a 5-inch 1080p screen, an 8 MP rear camera, a 1.3 MP front-facing shooter, a 2300 mAh battery, and Android 6.0 Marshmallow (via OTA upgrades). This is far from ‘cutting edge’ in 2016, but it still outranks devices like the Moto G 3rd gen, which costs around $40 more.
