Deal: Get a Samsung Galaxy S7 from Best Buy for $1… kind of

When you’re running a promotional deal, a huge amount of weight leans on how you approach your offer. Best Buy has come up with a pretty enticing promo pitch running from now until April 16th: walk into a brick-and-mortar store with your old phone and a one-dollar bill, and you can walk out with a Samsung Galaxy S7. There is, of course, a big asterisk immediately following that.

It makes sense, of course. Surely Best Buy isn’t just going to let you walk out of the store with a brand new flagship device for less than the cost of a cup of coffee. The biggest strip of yellow tape here is that you’ll need to sign a 2-year contract with Sprint or a monthly installment plan for Verizon, AT&T, or Sprint. You get a $200 gift card on the spot when you turn in your device, so with the two-year activation, Best Buy is saying you only really end up paying $1 down for the handset. There are some other caveats as well. Depending on where you live, you might have to pay the sales tax on the Galaxy S7, for instance.
