Just a few years ago even a relatively mediocre smartphone experience could easily run you well over $150 if the phone was purchased outright and unlocked. Thankfully, in 2016 it has become exceeding easy to find a quality phone for as little as $100 to $150. But what if you have even less than that to spend?
It is true that there are fewer ‘great’ phones to be had at the sub-$100 mark, but good deals to crop up from time to time. Case and point, the BLU Advance 5.0 is now on sale for just $48.
What does that $48 get you? The BLU Advance 5.0 is powered by a quad-core MediaTek 6580 1.3GHz processor that’s backed by a Mali-400 GPU and 768MB RAM. There’s also 4GB internal storage, microSD, 4G HSPA+ support for all US networks and many international ones too (in Dual-SIM format), as well as Android 5.1 Lollipop, a 5MP main cam, 2MP front cam, 5-inch 480 x 854 resolution display, and an 1800 mAh battery.
Now you can only expect so much for a hair under $50 – which is about the price of dinner for two at many casual sit down restaurants in the U.S. – and so it goes without saying that the Advance 5.0 isn’t an amazing phone. That said, it could be a great backup phone, a phone for a child or to give to an elderly parent, or just something to tinker with or transform into a cheap MP3 player.
Bottom-line, at $50, the BLU Advance 5.0 is within impulse buy territory for many of us. What do you think, worth the asking price? Any better phones you can think of around this same price range?
