If you’ve been in the market for some high-quality headphones but have kind of been balking at the prices, search no further. Audio-Technica’s ATH-M50x headphones are going on sale for $117.12 on Amazon, which is an absolute steal for the kind of audio quality these babies offer.
We’ve only seen this set of headphones go for cheaper once ($115 back in December), but considering that you can usually expect to pay around $170 for these, getting $50+ knocked off the price is pretty killer. The m50 sports some killer build quality, and it’s an all-around good looking headset. The earpieces pivot to let the headset conveniently lie flat in a bag or satchel, and the padding over the ears is comfortable and great for hours of continuous use.
But let’s be honest, when you’re forking over more than 100 bucks for a set of headphones, what you’re really looking for is sound quality. Fortunately, you’ve got nothing to worry about in that department. The m50 offers some of the best bass we’ve heard in the $150-$200 price range, and high tones sound crisp and smooth even at the highest levels.
With a heft of 2.1 pounds, these headphones definitely have that premium feel that you’re looking for, and critics have praised the m50 pretty much across the board. Our only real complaint is that the cord is proprietary, but that’s like complaining about your filet mignon coming garnished with cilantro. All in all, these are a pair of really solid headphones that are well-priced at $170. Snagging them for $117? No brainer.
