Amazon Fire 7
The Amazon Fire line of tablets is a great place to look if you want an affordable and easy to use device. However, they run on Fire OS which is an Amazon-focused version of Android with different default apps. The Fire 7 is the basic tablet from Amazon and it offers up to seven hours of battery life and up to 32GB of storage.
Amazon Fire HD 8
If you’re able to spring a bit more on a tablet, the Fire HD 8 is worth the extra $20 over the Fire 7. It adds an inch to the screen, three hours to the battery life, and makes the switch from a mono speaker to dual speakers. The Fire HD 8 also adds Dolby Atmos and Amazon’s full-screen Show Mode. As with all smart Amazon products, you can take full advantage of Alexa commands with only the sound of your voice.
Amazon Fire HD 10
The Fire HD 10 is the largest and most powerful option in the Fire tablet line and it beefs the specs up even further over the Fire HD 8. It lasts up to 12 hours and doubles the RAM of the Fire 7 up to 2GB. The Fire HD 10 also drops the Micro-USB in favor of a USB-C connection and upgrades the screen to Full HD. You can also choose between 32GB and 64GB of storage.
Apple New iPad
Apple’s New iPad is actually the base model of the iPad, just with new internal options. It comes with the A10 Fusion chip, up to 10 hours of battery life, and a 10.2-inch Retina display. Of course, it runs on iOS so it’s likely your best bet if you’re already in the Apple ecosystem. The iPad also blows Amazon’s Fire tablets out of the water in terms of storage with 32GB or 128GB onboard.

Microsoft Surface Go
Moving on from iOS, the Microsoft Surface Go is the smallest, most portable option in the Surface line. The Surface Go 2 has recently been announced which means that some great prices should be available on the original for a little while. The Surface Go runs Windows 10 Home in S mode with up to 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. You can also set the Surface Go in tablet mode, laptop mode, and studio mode with the flexible rear stand.
