Best gifts for Mother’s Day

mothers-day

Mother’s Day is right around the corner and now you have less than a week to get something cool for that special woman in your life. We are sure those looking into tech gifts are having a hard time trying to choose the right present, though. You have to take into account plenty of factors: price, usability, complexity, specific needs, etc.

Need some help? We have put together a list of awesome gadgets and accessories mom will be sure to love. Let’s check them out and see if any of them spark your interest.

Smartphones

The connected mom needs a reliable smartphone, but unless you are loaded with cash, it’s probably not reasonable to get her one of those fancy high-end phones. Lucky for you, times when you had to spend a handful of money to get a decent phone are gone. These are affordable, and can perform very well (one of them is nearly as good as the best flagships out there).

Moto X Pure Edition

Moto X Pure Edition-15

This is the most expensive of the bunch, but it is still super affordable considering what you are getting. Featuring a Qualcomm Snapdragon 808, 3 GB of RAM, a 5.7-inch QHD diplay, 21MP/5MP cameras and a 3,000 mAh battery, this handset is a steal at only $299.99.

As it goes with any Motorola phone, the Moto X Pure Edition offers a very clean and simple experience. The UI is very close to pure Android, yet the phone still offers some great features mom will really enjoy.

Moto G (3rd generation)

Don’t need that much power and could use keeping under $200? Maybe the 3rd-generation Moto G is a better bet. This handset comes with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 processor, 1 GB of RAM, a 5-inch 720p display, 8/16 GB of internal storage, 13MP/5MP cameras and a 2,470 mAh battery.

It’s not the superphone of your dreams, but it will get the job done and might be more than enough for mom. It also starts at only $173.98.

BLU Life One X

BLU may be a bit of an unknown brand to some, but be sure they make pretty good devices. The BLU Life One X got an 8.3/10 score in our full review. It sports a 1.3GHz octa-core MediaTek MT6753, 2 GB of RAM, a 5.2-inch 1080p display, 16 GB of internal storage, a 13 MP rear-facing camera, a 5 MP front shooter and a 2,900 mAh battery.

This phone is nearly as good as the Moto G, yet it is a bit cheaper at $149.99.

Fitness trackers

Does your mom like to stay active? Us younger people may sometimes forget how important physical activity is, especially once people start growing older. Make sure to help your mother stay healthy and get her a good fitness tracker!

Fitbit Alta

Fitbit Alta review AA 3

The Fitbit Alta is not the most powerful fitness tracker out there, but it is definitely worth the $129 it costs. It rocks great aesthetics, is comfortable and features a 5-day battery life that competes against the best.

Also helpful is the fact that this wearable gadget comes with some smart functionality. Aside from tracking your daily activity, sleep and exercise sessions, it can also provide text, call and calendar notifications. My only real gripe is that it’s not waterproof.

Fitbit Charge HR

Fitbit Charge HR review AA 21

Some moms are not into the whole smart watch style activity trackers. The Fitbit Charge HR has a smaller screen and dumps those capabilities, but it costs the same ($129.95) as the Alta because it adds more fitness-focused features.

The Fitbit Charge HR tracks your steps, sleep, calories burned, flights climbed, distance traveled and heart beat. In addition, it is splash proof (but not waterproof). This means it might be able to handle your sweat and some water here and there, but it wouldn’t be smart to take it for a swim.

Jawbone UP2

jawbone-up2

It’s time to switch things up a bit and recommend another brand. There are plenty of good fitness trackers out there, and some of them are quite affordable – the Jawbone UP2 is one of them.

It has no screen, so everything is done through the app, but it can do the basic things very well. This wearable tracks your activity and sleep. You can also log your meals through the app, and battery life is estimated at a whopping 10 days. It’s not the fanciest gadget around, but it only costs $44.27 right now.

Wireless Bluetooth speakers

Being a mom is no easy job. They deserve a good break and some good music will always help. Why not get them a competent, yet not too expensive wireless speaker? Here are some of our favorites.

JBL Flip 3

JBL-Flip-31-1024x576

The JBL Flip 3 is a good speaker for the price. It offers good sound, a splash-proof body and a design that is both aesthetically pleasing and very portable.

Our sister site Sound Guys gave it a 9/10 review score, which is outstanding. Its external bass radiators also give it a depth that we hadn’t seen before in the series. And currently costing only $82, it is no surprise this is a favorite among users.

CB3 Ultra Slim

cb3

If you want something a little cheaper, here at Android Authority we are fans of the CB3 Ultra Slim speaker. Let’s start by telling you it is very good looking and portable. The metal body looks and feels great, while its sound is very enticing for a $49 Bluetooth speaker.

Audio is loud and clear. There’s actually a suspended bass radiator which adds a nice pump to the low end frequencies. We have tested it plenty, even riding a motorcycle. As long as you don’t get into noisy environments (like a highway), it does the trick very well.

Bose SoundLink Color Bluetooth Speaker

Bose-SoundLink-Color-Bluetooth-Speaker

Bose has always put out some great audio products, and the SoundLink Color Bluetooth Speaker is no exception. It gives out crystal clear highs, deep, prominent bass, and great-sounding mid-tones that you might not expect to hear from a wireless speaker.

This speaker lasts up to 8 hours on a single charge and is fully compatible with any Bluetooth-enabled device you own. It’s compact, loud and clear… what more could you ask for? It’s $129, but its quality is worth that cash.

Headphones

No one wants to be blasting an actual speaker all the time, right? Here are some good headphones for those quiet chilling times.

GOgroove AudiOHM RNF

gogroove-audiohm-rnf-sg-1

Can $24.99 get you good headphones? It’s a bit of a gamble when you spend that little money on audio equipment. It could be a good product, but chances are it won’t be. This is why we like recommending the GOgroove AudiOHM RNF earbuds.

This accessory is among the most durable in its price point. It has a 3 mm reinforced cable and is reinforced by a full metal housing. These also happen to sound pretty good for the price.

Creative Sound Blaster Jam

Crative’s Sound Blaster Jam is a Bluetooth headset that costs only $34.99. Is the product any good? We had our doubts too, but our sister site gave it a pretty good review.

All things considered, this headset is good for the price. Sure, the sound quality is nothing to write home about, but they sound nice enough to earn a spot in this list, given its affordability.

Monoprice DJ Style Pro Headphones

monoprice-headphones

You have probably heard of Monoprice. They are famous for selling very affordable, yet good cables and other accessories. We were shocked to hear they had some pretty good sounding headphones, but even more surprising is the $29.97 price point.

These actually put up a good fight against the headsets that costs hundreds of dollars. They won’t win the awards… but they are also amazingly affordable and offer great quality.
