There’s something incredibly fascinating about watching a teardown video. Not only because of the accuracy and precision required, that is if you’re hoping to put it back together to use it again, but because, as cynical as I am, I sometimes watch them to make sure the manufacturer hasn’t lied or exaggerated about what’s inside. Which never happens. But wouldn’t it be absolutely crazy if it did? Anyway, the latest device to get the teardown treatment is the Sony Xperia Tablet Z, at the hands of a badass Sony engineer, no less.
Even though, we know that the Sony Xperia Tablet Z is very sleek, at just 6.9 mm thick, but the first thing that strikes you when you watch the video is how thin it is! Even at that size, the 10.1-inch tablet boasts a large 6,000 mAh battery, which, as you’ll see, is actually three separate batteries taped together. The 10.1-inch display, with a 1920×1200 resolution, features an anti-shatter film on the glass, along with an anti-smudge coating to reduce fingerprints. As expected, the innards are held together by a lot of screws and tape, with some of the hardware including the 8.1MP camera, the microSD slot, the microphone, the headset jack, and the NFC antenna, just to name a few. Let’s take a look at the video!
The Sony Xperia Tablet Z picked up the Best Tablet of the show award at this year’s inaugural TechRadar MWC Awards, and deservedly so. Sony has been pushing hard to make a comeback in the high-end Android smartphone and tablet arena, and the Xperia Tablet Z is a great effort by the company. And of course, one of the best features about this tablet, that wasn’t seen in the video, is the fact that it is completely waterproof, which you can see in our own first look and hands-on video here.
It is mentioned in the video that the Sony Xperia Tablet Z will be available from May, and I, for one, can’t wait to get my hands on this tablet.
