Asus unveils FonePad 7, features dual-core Atom CPU and front-facing speakers

Asus PadFone 7

Remember that rumored refresh of the Asus FonePad we heard about last month? The company has now confirmed that a second-gen model is in fact on its way, under the name Asus FonePad 7.

As expected, the FonePad 7 trades in the slower 1.2GHz Atom Z2420 single-core processor found in the original FonePad, in favor of a faster 1.6GHz Atom Z2560 dual-core processor.

Some of the devices other specs include a 7-inch IPS display with a 1280 x 800 resolution, 1GB RAM, 5MP rear cam, 8GB storage and microSD support up to 64GB. As you probably guessed by the name, the FonePad 7 will also feature the ability to make phone calls.

The Asus FonePad 7 might have quite a few internal improvements, but on the surface, it looks very similar to the original. Probably the most noticeable change – appearance wise – is the addition of dual-front speakers with SonicMaster technology onboard.

So when’s the FonePad 7 coming, and how much will it set you back? Unfortunately, Asus has yet to release any specifics when it comes to pricing or the device’s release date. IFA 2013 is really just getting started, so we are likely to know more as the week progresses.

What do you think of the latest PadFone based on what we currently know? Interested or not?
