Though Asus is yet to even confirm the existence of the MemoPad 10 ME301T tablet, there are but a few pieces of the puzzle left uncovered. Based on a leak from a month ago, an unboxing video emerged ten days back and additional info spilled today, the tab looks like a rather decent 10-incher with not a lot of oomph, but a pretty sensible price point.
What’s interesting about today’s intel is that it basically comes from all across Europe. The Netherlands bring us what look like press shots of the MemoPad 10, while Germany and Italy offer the first insight on semi-official pricing.
Let’s kick it off with the photos, shall we? These confirm the new 10-incher looks a lot like the one-year-old Transformer Pad TF300T, only the docking station is nowhere to be found. Just the white and blue versions are shown off in these pics, but based on other leaked material Asus is going to launch the MemoPad 10 in snazzy red and stylish pink as well.
We can’t really tell from the images, but the brand new 10-incher is actually supposed to be lighter than the TF300 (just 580 grams) while sporting a slightly thicker body (10.5 mm thick, to be more exact). The decreased weight is not exactly good news, because it could contribute to more lackluster build quality.
But enough words and let’s talk numbers. Pricing numbers, that is. The tablet has been spotted on Amazon Germany and a couple of Italian online retailers, with all listings pointing at a starting price of €349 ($477).
However, no one is fulfilling orders just yet and Notebook Italia, after doing some digging, has found out that the recommended retail price is actually going to be €300 ($410).
Too pricey? It might sound that way when you can get the Nexus 10 for just €100 extra, but what if you don’t have that €100? Or to put things in a different perspective, €300 is more or less what Asus charges for the TF300, and, as far as we can tell, there aren’t many differences between the two.
The MemoPad 10, as far as we know, is going to feature a 10.1-inch 1,280 x 800 IPS LCD panel, a quad-core NVIDIA Tegra 3 CPU, 1 GB of RAM, 16 GB of internal memory, microSD support, Android 4.1 Jelly Bean and dual 5 MP/1.2 MP cameras. All things considered, do you think it’ll be a hit or a flop?
