Archos GamePad U.S. release date set for February

The Archos GamePad originally launched outside of the U.S. back in December, and the company has also been showing off the device at CES this year just to tease American consumers a little bit more.

Well there’s good news for our gamer friends in the States, as Phil Geldard from Archos has said that the GamePad will be ready for a February 2013 launch in the region. He wasn’t any more specific than that unfortunately, but I guess we can live without an exact date as it’s not a particularly long wait.

For a quick recap; the Archos GamePad is an Android-based, touchscreen device complete with gaming buttons attached. It’s running Android 4.1 Jelly Bean and is packing an ARM A9 dual-core CPU clocked at 1.6Ghz, 1GB of RAM, and a quad-core Mali 400 MP GPU for some gaming muscle.

It features a 7-inch, 1024 x 600 resolution display, which is acceptable but not fantastic considering you’re gaming. My guess is that the lower resolution will help render a few more frames per second. It also comes with 8GB internal memory and a microSD slot for some extra storage if required.

It’s not the most high-end or powerful device, but for the $169 price point and the added convenience of being able to play games with real buttons, it’s a pretty attractive sounding product. Do you intend to pick on up when it arrives on U.S. shores in February?
