Archos Gamepad now shipping in Europe for €149.99

Archos Gamepad

Back in August we mentioned that the Archos Gamepad was expected to arrive in Europe by October. While Archos missed that original target by two months, the Android gaming tablet is now finally available for just €149.99.

Unlike a traditional handheld gaming system, the Archos Gamepad is still a full Android device with the power of Android 4.1 Jelly Bean onboard. The hardware in the Gamepad is powered by a 1.6GHz dual-core CPU, a quad-core Mali 400 MP GPU, 1GB of RAM, and has 8GB internal memory with microSD for expansion. As for the display, it is a 7-inch capacitive screen with a resolution of 1024 x 600.

The gaming controller built into the tablet has a total of 14 physical buttons, dual-analog sticks and is all packaged together in a chasis that is just 10mm in thickness and weighs only 330 grams. There is also a special Archos game mapping tool that will allow you to assign specific buttons for games not specifically made for the Archo’s built-in controller.

With a dual-core processor, this isn’t the most powerful device around, but it should be more than capable of handling most mobile games out on the market right now. It’s also hard to complain when the price is so good.

Not everyone loves the Archos brand, but this seems to be a reasonably solid gaming tablet if you are looking for a device with dedicated controllers built right in. For those in the United States and Canada? It is believed that the Archos Gamepad will hit sometime in early 2013.

What do you think of the Archos Gamepad, interested or not?
