An ICS tablet for just $59.99? Meet the Matrix One

Matrix One

It seems that today must be the day for good news about cheap ICS tablets. A bit earlier, Android Authority reported that the Coby Kyros MID7033 was getting a steep discount from $109.99 to just $79.99. If you think that’s a bargain, how about just $59.99? No, that wasn’t a typo. The Matrix One isn’t exactly a powerhouse, but it’s hardware is actually pretty close to the Kyros. Here is  a rundown of the tablet’s specs:

  • Cortex A8 1.5GHz processor
  • 512MB of RAM
  • 7-inch Capacitive screen (800 x 480, Multi-touch 5 Point)
  •  7.5 x 4.5 x 0.40 inches
  • 11.1 ounces
  • 2-megapixel Front Facing Camera (Landscape Mounted)
  • 4GB internal storage
  • MicroSD expansion
  • Android 4.0.3 (Ice Cream Sandwich)
  • WiFi
  • 3200mAh battery
  • Microphone
  • Gyroscope/Accelerometer
  • 3.5mm Headphone Jack
  • Full USB
  • Micro USB
  • Mini HDMI (1080p HDMI out)

For such a budget price, it’s really quite surprising to hear that the screen is capacitive, as opposed to a cheaper resistive one. Even the processor isn’t that bad, especially when you stop to think about the low pricing. On the other hand, this isn’t the best choice for those that absolutely want premium features like NFC, GPS and Google apps like the official Google Play market. The Matrix One website doesn’t mention what store is included with the tablet, though you can pretty much guarantee Google Play isn’t offered. Alternative stores like GetJar and the Amazon AppStore should work perfectly fine for most consumer needs.

What do you think? At such a low price would you consider this as a secondary tablet, or even as a Holiday season present?
