The Amazon Fire 10 was released in September of 2015, and brought major changes to the UI and a larger screen to the Fire family. While it was praised for the more colorful and inviting UI, the plastic construction and low pixel density turned off many users. But there was no denying that it was of good value for the relatively low price of $229.99. Now Amazon is fixing one of the original gripes: the construction.

Staring today, the Amazon Fire 10 can now be purchased with a silver aluminium chassis, and Amazon claims that it is now twice as durable as the iPad Air 2 in everyday tumbles. The best part is that the aluminium model is the same price as its plastic counterpart. Amazon has also released a 64GB storage option that is only available with the aluminium model.

In terms of specs, the Amazon Fire 10 packs a Mediatek quad core 1.5GHz/ 2GHz processor, 1GB of RAM, 5MP rear-facing camera, 10.1 inch IPS display with 149PPI, microSD card support, and an 8-hour battery life. Meant primarily for media consumption, the Fire 10 also comes with a few useful software features that mainly make reading a more comfortable experience such as Blue Shade, which makes night-time reading easier on your eyes.

What you are really getting with the Fire 10 really depends on how invested you are into Amazon’s services. It would be incredibly useful for someone who is signed up for Amazon Prime and wants to take advantage of everything it offers. Is this a better offer from Amazon or are there still better tablets in the same price range? Let us know in the comments.
