Amazon has been busy taking its Kindle family abroad in the past weeks. The world trip began in Japan, where alongside the introduction of the new Kindle Fire, the Kindle Fire HD, and the Kindle Paperwhite, we also saw the opening of the Kindle Store. The Kindle family then made a stop in Europe. What’s the next destination?
While it hasn’t been confirmed yet, the evidence is piling up for an Amazon landing in China very, very soon.
According to the China Radio Management Agency website, Amazon has submitted four Kindle devices to the country’s regulatory agency in order to get the required radio equipment license. While the four are believed to be the Kindle Keyboard, the Kindle Touch 3G, and the Kindle Fire HD, a search on the agency’s website for the license certification hasn’t proven to be fruitful.
The next set of evidence comes from TechWeb. The website received some tip from a source within Amazon’s China office, who said that the Kindle lineup will be released as early as November there. This was confirmed by another source who stated that the devices are currently being tested.
Lastly, the Kindle Paperwhite software recently received simplified China language support.
More and more companies are trying to bank on China’s ever growing lust for gadgets, e-book readers and the likes. While counterfeits are aplenty, there are many who don’t mind spending some big bucks for the real thing – just ask Apple. We’ll see in the next few weeks whether Amazon will have some good Kindle news for folks in the country.
