It seems that Acer might be preparing to bring a new tablet to the market. A new Acer device has been spotted in the GLBenchmark database under the name Acer Iconia Tab A220.
So what kind of specs do we get with this possible A210 successor? The Iconia A220 is powered by a 1.3GHz Nvidia Tegra 3 processor, and has a resolution of 1280×800 pixels. The GLBenchmark entry also shows that the tablet runs Android 4.1.2. We don’t have a lot of other details, but we are speculating that the device might very well be a 10-inch tablet, like others in the A2xx series. Curiously, 1.3GHz is a little lower than Tegra 3 is usually clocked at, likely to extend battery life.
It could be that Acer is attempting to introduce a low-cost 10-incher that can compete with devices like the recently announced Samsung Nexus 10. For now we have no clue how much this device will cost, but with a somewhat modest processor and display resolution, it will likely be as budget-friendly as possible.
Could we see the Acer Iconia Tab A220 this holiday season? It’s hard to say. If so, that would mean an announcement and release is just around the corner. While this is certainly possible, it could also end up being released sometime in early 2013 instead.
