Slack is a messaging platform designed for businesses and that like to stay in communication. It includes the ability to attach and share almost any kind of file which is nice and you can also create chat rooms for various topics so you don’t have everyone talking over one another. There are also a variety of plugins including Asana, Giphy, Google Drive, and others which adds even more functionality and fun. The app looks good and works great.

Solid Explorer

Solid Explorer is quickly becoming a favorite in the file manager space. It has a solid set of features including support for archived files, support for a variety of cloud storage websites as well as FTP, SFTP, WebDav, SMB, and CIFS support. It also comes with root access, two panel navigation, and it’s all wrapped up in a swath of Material Design. Cabinet Beta is pretty good, but at least for now, Solid Explorer is better. It’s $1.99 with the free version being a 14-day free trial to see if you like it.

Textra

Textra was on a prior version of this list, was removed because it was buggy, then re-added because it became awesome again. Textra is a Material Design focused SMS and MMS app that lets you, well, text message people. It comes with a bot that you can text for help if you need it and you have the ability to theme the app using the colors that you want. Every feature is in the free version with the paid version removing the occasional advertisement that you may see.

Today Calendar

Today Calendar was one of the first calendar apps to embrace Material Design and so far it seems to be doing it 100% right. It comes with plenty of calendar features, including sync support and virtually every feature from the stock email app. Of course, the big story here is the design which is just fantastic as Today Calendar manages to use Material Design in a way that enhances the functionality instead of just making another calendar app that looks flashy.

Unclouded

Unclouded is a unique application that allows you to manage your cloud storage accounts. The way it works is you sign into your Dropbox, Google Drive, etc, and the application allows you to root around and do things with the files therein. One of its more unique features is the ability to detect copies so you can get rid of any duplicates between your various cloud storage accounts. It’s also done up in Material Design so it looks good.

Wally

Wally has a tumultuous past. It started out on fire as the premiere Material Design app for grabbing up wallpapers. Then the site that hosted the wallpapers shut down which left Wally broken. Now, everything has been sorted out and the app is back to working order. It was considered one of the best uses of Material Design and one of the first apps to come out with it. It’s also a good place to find wallpapers.
